Every Wednesday night from 24 February the Healthy Pompey team will be running a new club full of activities for teenagers who are above a healthy weight. There will be tips and tricks to help year 9, 10 and 11 pupils battle the bulge for a happier and healthier future.
Teen participants can review their eating habits, try out new recipes and activities and enjoy themselves with others who are going through exactly the same experience.
Katie Carew-Robinson, health development coordinator on the Healthy Pompey team, said: "This is the first course of its kind for teenagers in the community and it is completely free of charge. For any teens worried about their weight, this is a great way to learn how to help yourself in a supportive and friendly environment.
"The course is not about banning anyone's favourite foods or treats but rather understanding what makes a balanced diet and supporting people to make small changes to improve their diet and lifestyle. It's not about eating less, it's about eating better," Carew-Robinson added.
The course is open to anyone in year 9, 10, or 11 who is over a healthy weight. The club will be held every Wednesday, two hours after school at St Cuthbert's Centre in Hayling Avenue.
The club is free to attend, but Healthy Pompey is also offering free transport from three of the city's schools. There will be free transport from Priory School, Admiral Lord Nelson School and the City Boys School.
